Just Talk Out Loud
Communication Tips for Executives
January 12, 2026
One of the first tips we share with executives who simply don’t have the time to structure their thoughts into a written page: Just talk out loud!
Most likely, how you verbally explain things just comes naturally and fluidly out of you. So the easiest way to get your thoughts on paper is to record yourself … then promptly send that audio file to your Communications team who will take it from there. They are trained to listen, decipher, organize and craft your thoughts into a communication that can be shared with any intended audience: peers, staff, clients, media, etc.
The ROI: One Will Yield Many
Your one recording can spawn a handful, or even dozens, of content pieces that your team can create in various formats and push across multiple channels. But it all begins by verbalizing your thoughts.
Six Easy Steps
You can start by simply using the Notes app on your iPhone that can transcribe your spoken words into a note. Here’s how:
- Go to the Notes app on your iPhone.
- In a note, tap the Attach/Paperclip icon, then tap Record Audio.
- To start the recording, tap the red Start Audio button.
- When you’re done, tap the Stop Audio button.
- To see the transcript, tap the Quotes icon.
- Email the transcript file to your Communications team!
Make Communicating a Habit
The trick is to get yourself in the habit of routinely recording yourself and delivering the transcription to your Comms team. Monthly is probably a good cadence. Before you know it, everyone will be informed about the vision you have regarding the strategies, services, technology or products designed to drive that vision, and your company, forward.
